An Alternative Gift Bag!

I have made this bag as a gift for a dear friend following this pattern (Dots little Ditty Bag!) - I have made it a little taller so that I could get what I wanted into it and also added a flower brooch :-)

I am loving crochet!

The yarn is from here and a bargain!

The gift cards I had made at Moo - I love this store - everything is so professionally finished - check it out!

OK - back to the hook - I have a rather large afghan blanket on the go right now!

Finishing - and starting projects! And a B****y good lunch on Friday!

OK, so me Dragons' finished and now has a new home!  Here he/she is - name unknown! Here is the pattern I attempted to follow.

Also the scarf has been tasselled - was easier than I thought to do!
Here it is in all its glory!

I also had a stab at one of Brie's rapid rabbits - mine is not as cute as hers :-( but he is a first and does look rather zany - maybe they take on their creators persona?!!!!

I had a great day on Friday -I  met a friend for lunch - haven't seen her in ages - so it was non stop information sharing - in fact we were the last out.
We dined at the 3Acres Inn in Shelley, near Huddersfield - absolutely gorgeous grub - go there if you can - but book first - very popular!
So, instead of getting on with projects that need finishing, I start another as a wee gift for her. watch this space!

I did plan on going to the Summer Crafting event at Doncaster Racecourse this weekend but I am skint and it would be torture going knowing I can't really spend on goodies :-((( - that's life.
If you go I would love to read about it and see piccies :-))

Knitting! Crochet! Papercraft!

Just wanted to share this wonderful yarn I've found.

Its Patons Batik and comes in some wonderful summery colours, there is even a pattern on the ball band for a summery scarf!
So, out came the knitting needles - I haven't done this for 20+ years and after a few false starts I'm on my way!!
Not quite like riding a bike - but got there in the end!

I bought the yarn from Knit and Sew and I have to say it is great service, ordered Tuesday, arrived Wednesday!
Mind you they also have this incredibly great for value yarn on their site - £1.51/100g ball - I bought several! And this wonderful box bag to carry my projects around in.

I just love the colours and may just have to use them in my next project - I have a huge list of things I'm gonna make - but I have several things on the go at once and have told myself I need to finish these first!

So I will be kept busy this week -
I have tassels to put on one scarf,
a bag to line,
another bag to complete the crochet work for,
the scarf to finish knitting and
a flower scarf to finish
- oh and a Dragon to complete!

He needs 1 arm , 2 feet and 3 more spines for his tail!!!  Its a bit of a personal joke for someone at work!

Yikes!

That's a lot!
And there is a special boy who has a birthday this month - so one card to make - trouble is the craft bunker is soooooooo hot at the mo................carry on crocheting/knitting in the cooler parts of the house!

Enjoy the weather people

First Crocheted Bag Part 2!

OMG - how much did the bag shrink - I wasn't prepared for that!
Well, its safe to say the felting process was a success - it is most definitely felted!!
Here it is made up - I am a proud "mother"!!!!
Now I want to line it - its a good excuse to go shopping tomorrow ;-)

Whilst waiting for it dry I hooked up this little darling - I needed a pincushion and this will do nicely!

Ok - next project already in my head (well several are to be honest - just need several more hands!!)

Enjoy the weather everyone but take care in the sun ;-)

First Crocheted Bag, Part 1!

I have been kept craft busy this week crocheting a bag!
I was having a little look around the wool shop near to work, Top Wools, and saw this wonderful wool - Rico Creative Poems, its 100% wool and its simply gorgeous! Its an absolute pleasure to use and the main part of the bag hooked up so quickly!

Its taken me a little while longer to do the flower and bobbles!  I am still a novice after all

The pattern is in Rowans Crochet Workshop book
which I highly recommend - better than any other crochet book I have - its all in there! If you wanna have a go at this addictive craft then get this book!

Anyhow, back to me bag!  Since its 100% wool I'm felting it - another first! As I write, its in the washing machine with teenagers' jeans - hope it comes out OK...........crossing fingers!

Until later!

Its finished! I'm sooooooo proud!

Well, here it is, my very first crocheted scarf - and yes, I am very proud of it, especially since I initially found the whole crochet thing difficult!
I have used Rowan Kid Classic in feather and teal and Kidsilk Aura in Mallard yarn - which I love, Rowan make some wonderful yarns.  I bought them from here - great service.

I have also made a matching flower brooch!
Guess what everyone is getting for Christmas?? LOL
I have another scarf to put the final touches too and I am having a go at  Amigurumi - the Japanese art of crocheted small animals!  It will be interesting to see how it turns out!  Check out this site - truly amazing - and very inspiring!

Confession - I only realised yesterday that Fathers Day was only a week away - so, yes I'm busy with that one - especially since I have 3 to make - not that I have 3 dads but I know the rest of the family will be asking for cards!!

Keep busy everyone!! And if you're not come round to mine - I've plenty to do !!!

Been on me Jollies!.......

Oh yes!
Have been on a very relaxing, peaceful jolly in the Kingdom of Fife! Bliss! We stayed here - beautiful building - huge, with a 3mile hike to the bathroom!!!!!! But then we are used to an en-suite! Lazy b*****s!
Other-half played golf, golf and more golf, in between taxiing me around to various shops and a very enjoyable workshop with Sheena Douglass in Perth on Bank Holiday Monday! (interesting note here - in Scotland, a bank holiday is just that - only the banks shut!)
Here's some of the things we made:

Alcohol inks were the main focus of the day! Loved it!

Another find was this great shop in Perth - my eyes were out on stalks at the sight of all those stamps! Other-half tactfully exited to the coffee shop across the road!

I also did plenty of crochet too - but that to come later!

A Crafty Individual Indeed.............!

Its been a while - I've been busy.......life has thrown some unexpected events at me and mine!
On a crafty note I have just spent the weekend in the company of Jean Hardy of Crafty Individuals, her business partner Malcolm and 10 other crafty ladies!
What a brill time! Very relaxed pace, great food and wonderful company.
On the Saturday we made a framed display box and on the Sunday we made this - not sure what to call it!
I loved looking at everyone elses' creations - we all had a different take on the tasks. Very inspiring!
(confession - I have a new stash of stamps to play with ;-) )
Saturday was such a beautiful day and we spent the evening in a local pubs' beer garden in Yarm - ahhhhh the bliss of the English Sun!

On another note the Crochet is coming along - I have decided to make a blanket  - I figured it  would give me the experience I need to feel comfortable with all things crochet!

It goes everywhere with me - that's the great thing about it!  I have had some funny looks though LOL.
Its slowly coming along and I picked the brightest colour of yarn I could find! My son says "it'll take you years Mum to finish that!! ".  Lets hope he's wrong!

Keep well everyone

PS if you are the ********* that stole our car off our drive then I hope you ******** in hell!

On A Quest!

I’m on a mission – a personal one!

I’m exercising the left handside of my brain by learning new tricks!!

Well, that's what I’m telling myself!  Some (most) people think I’m crazy – but then I won't go into how they spend their spare time…………

Yesterday I booked onto a workshop to learn how to crochet at Baa Ram Ewe in Leeds. Now this is a beautiful shop and I was amazed at all the creations people had made, both on display in the shop and those brought in by my fellow learners!  If you’re ever in the area check it out – or book onto one of their workshops!

I have to say I really am a total novice and after a very slow start (I have to admit I nearly gave up) and a very patient teacher (thanks Sarah) I now “get it!”

Can’t say its perfect, tension is my enemy now but I’m sure that will come with practice.  My fingers have been well exercised and I am very manually dexterous by nature of my work!

My first attempts were so “tight” – we were supposed to be making coasters – mine is for a sherry glass! Others made what I can only describe as blankets – I wanted to be that loose!!!

DSCF9201

After lunch at the noodle bar next door (bottomless boxes btw!) we started on granny squares! I didn't hold out much hope but by jolly  - I got it!!  It was slow, I kept having to check back at the stitch instructions but hey – I made it!

A Happy Hooker indeed!

Today I’ve had a go at  crocheted flowers – ummmmmmm, well they aren't very even – but I read a pattern and had a stab at it, realising that the Americans use slightly different names for their stitches!!!  The joy of the internet!

So, I now need more yarn – we used Rowans hand knit cotton – it really is a lovely yarn but I need more colours – so whoops – shopping is called for! OH sighs once more!

Next quest – perfect the knitting!     And then the sewing!   And then the……………well we’ll see!

Happy Crafting everyone!

Happy Good Friday!

Thank goodness its the Easter break!

DSCF9163

A few days off work and then back to my normal work routine! Yeah!

This afternoon we have been baking – I have been wanting to make cupcakes for ages after having discovered edible glitter!!! Its amazing! {my OH shakes his head in dismay!} I got mine at Hobbycraft – they have so many colours it was hard to choose but in the end I bought holographic!

I might add I am wearing quite a bit of it too!

I am also rediscovering knitting and trying my hand at crochet – now this I have never done before and its taken me most of the afternoon to learn the basic stitch!!!!! Simple when you know how!!! LOL.

Well, back to the hook!

Have a great Good Friday everyone!

This crazy life!

home

Firstly I want to give a HUGE apology to all those of you who visit and all those I visit – this crazy life of mine has taken over and just for now I really have not had the time to leave you all comments – although I do try and fit in a few sneaky peeks of all your blogs when I have a spare moment!

So here’s a big comment to you all –

“I have, and do love all your work, you keep the crafty fires burning for me, so thank you all.”

The good news is that its nearly Easter and my work schedule SHOULD ease off! Fingers crossed!

I did manage to sneak away to the Great Northern Papercrafts Extravaganza on Saturday morning in Harrogate, and managed to grab a last minute place on the early morning workshop with Dyan Reaveley from Art from the Heart. Wow – the energy she has – and early on a Saturday morning too!

I’m the one in green at the end!

Note to self – must download Dyans’ digital images!logo - new main -

Here’s what we made using the new Distress Inks and Dyans’ images and although I didn’t do a great job with the rub-ons, I am liking it!

DSCF9145

So, when I got home I used up the remaining materials that were in the kit and made this one too, it now needs one more and then it might have pride of place in my home – provided my Mother doesn’t “borrow” it first!

DSCF9152

I have also had a stab at making this tote – great gift idea!

DSCF9153

Papers are all a free download from Pink Petticoat and the template is from here! Check ‘em out, there's some great papers at Pink Petticoat and some fabby templates at AR Crafts. Thanks to both :-) I had a great time!

Oh, and as usual I was “helped” by my feline assistant – Marius!

DSCF9140

I subscribe every month to Scrapagogo’s greeting kit, and it duly arrives package in a “pizza” type box with a huge paper bag inside – ummmmmmmm guess who has helped me unpack it???

Who needs expensive toys?!!!!!!!!

Have a great week everyone – can’t believe its Spring already! ;-)

In love with House Mouse!

So much so I bought these decoupage sheets from Joanna Sheen – I really don’t do decoupage where a pair of scissors is involved!

woyww

Hey, I remembered!

Actually there’s not been a lot going on lately on the workdesk!

As far as crafting is going I have been playing away from home – we have a wee crafty club going on at work – it started with making Valentines cards for OH’s and the girlies found they enjoyed it so much we are trying to fit in a little every week – decoupage tomorrow! (all being well)!

I have also been enlisted to help with a friend of a friends wedding  - so have some favours and place name cards to do there – all designed over good food and drink and excellent company!

DSCF9088

On my desk tonight is some decoupage I’ve  been putting together for the girlies and I always find time for some colouring in! To the left hand side I am putting together an acrylic album for a friends birthday – just waiting for the prints to arrive now – some great deals on t’internet  - just paid the 99p postage! The album kit was a bargain (well I thought so) from the clearance section on QVC - £5!

DSCF9094

This photo is the trolley I have to the side of me where I generally have my cuttlebug out – and anything else I am using – my aim is to keep the main work area decluttered!

Marius just loves being in the bunker with me – as soon as he sees me near the door he darts through – its his place now as well!

To have a good old nosey at everyone elses desk go to Julias blog here!

Until the next time

My Mission........ (and WOYWW)

........should I choose to accept it, is to clear my wall of all the things I have started, the things I have just had a go at, the things I have loved to play with and  then been at a loss as to what to do with!
Some of these items have been here a good long while, its time to dust them off and use 'em up!
I started my wall because I found that if I put stuff  in a drawer I forgot about it  - it transpires putting them on the wall amounts to the same - not that you can forget something you see everyday - ignore, perhaps!
This was the wall before......

Surprisingly I have managed to make oodles of cards out of all the images I have painstakingly coloured and a vase of paper flowers from several that I have made over the past year :-)

The black and white bag on my desk is a much loved Christmas pressie from my dear teenage son - I love it!

Oh, and of course the cat (Marius) - well hes my cat - is with me - he follows me everywhere, its like having a dog!
To have a good old nosey at other peeps workareas go and visit Julia
Until later
